ITALIAN SAUSAGE BURGERS

Use bulk sausage meat or squeeze the meat from its casing for these flavourful burgers. They’re especially delicious topped with slices of prosciutto and our Basil Sour Cream.

Yield: Makes 4.

ITALIAN SAUSAGE BURGERS

Ingredients

  • ​1 lb (0.5 kg) mild Italian sausage meat
  • 1/4 cup panko
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp basil, crumbled
  • 1 tsp oregano, crumbled
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 4 slices prosciutto
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 slices provolone cheese
  • 8 Roma tomato slices
  • 1/4 cup arugula
  • Basil Sour Cream*

Directions

  1. Combine sausage, panko, egg, garlic, basil, oregano and cayenne pepper until blended. Shape mixture into 4 patties. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or up to 2 hours.
  2. Cook prosciutto in batches in a large non-stick frypan over medium heat until crisp, about 1 - 2 minutes per side.
  3. Transfer prosciutto to a paper towel-lined plate.
  4. Grill patties over medium heat on natural gas barbecue until completely cooked.
  5. Serve in buns with prosciutto, cheese, tomato, arugula and Basil Sour Cream.

BASIL SOUR CREAM

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tsp liquid honey

Yield: Makes about 2/3 cup.

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients until blended. Refrigerate until serving.
