Apple Sauce

Classic sweet and cinnamony apple sauce, pairs well with savoury meals and baking. Who knew it was this simple to make from home?!

Yield: Makes about 8 cups

Apple Sauce

Ingredients

  • 8 large cooking apples
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon, optional*
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg, optional*
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice

Directions

  1. Wash, quarter and core apples. Put in a large saucepan with water. Cover and simmer 15 - 20 minutes or until apples are tender when pierced with a fork.
  2. Stir occasionally. Add more water if needed.
  3. Press through a strainer or food mill.
  4. Stir in sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add lemon juice. Heat until sugar is dissolved. Serve hot or cold.
