Cherry Jam

Cherries are not just for pies! Enjoy your cherries all year round by making this tasty cherry jam.


Yield: Makes about 4 cups

Cherry Jam


  • 4 cups pitted cherries
  • 4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice


  1. Make alternate layers of cherries and sugar in a non-reactive Dutch oven. Let stand 4 hours.
  2. Bring mixture to a full rolling boil and boil, stirring frequently, for 20 minutes. Add lemon juice and return to a full rolling boil; boil 5 minutes longer. Remove from heat, stir and skim foam for 5 minutes.
  3. Pour into hot sterilized jars, leaving 1/4 inch headspace. Wipe jar rims thoroughly. Seal and process for 10 minutes in a boiling water bath.
