French Toast Strata

The perfect breakfast main to feed a large group. Great for holiday brunching!

Yield: Serves 8 - 10

French Toast Strata


  • 10 cups white bread cubes
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 8 eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp freshly ground nutmeg


  1. Place bread cubes in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. Using medium speed of an electric mixer, beat cream cheese until smooth. Beat in eggs, two at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Add milk, syrup, vanilla and nutmeg; beat just until blended.
  4. Pour mixture evenly over bread. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  5. Bake, uncovered, at 350°F (180°C) for 55 – 60 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.
