GREEK BURGERS

Give your beef burgers a lift by packing them with Mediterranean flavours. These barbecued burgers have roasted red peppers, spinach and oregano worked right into the patties. Serve them with our tasty Feta Aioli.

GREEK BURGERS

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (0.5 kg) lean ground beef
  • 3/4 cup fresh bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup chopped canned roasted red peppers
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 1 pkg (10 oz/300 g) frozen chopped spinach, thawed and squeezed dry
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp oregano, crumbled
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp freshly ground pepper
  • 6 whole wheat kaiser buns
  • 6 thin slices red onion
  • Feta Aioli*

Directions

  1. Preheat natural gas barbecue on medium-high heat for 10 - 15 minutes.
  2. Combine beef, bread crumbs, red peppers, parsley, onion, garlic, spinach, egg, oregano, salt and pepper. Shape mixture into 6 patties.
  3. Grill patties over medium heat on natural gas barbecue until completely cooked. Serve in buns with onion and Feta Aioli.

FETA AIOLI

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shredded feta cheese
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 1/4 tsp freshly ground pepper

Yield: Makes about 2/3 cup.

Directions

  1. In a food processor, process feta cheese, mayonnaise, garlic and pepper until smooth. Transfer to a bowl. Cover and refrigerate until serving. Serve with beef, lamb, chicken or pork.
