LOUISIANA BURGERS WITH REMOULADE SAUCE
This juicy burger is served with a Louisiana-style Rémoulade Sauce. Unlike French Rémoulade, which resembles tartar sauce, Louisiana Rémoulade gets its pink hue and piquant flavor from Louisiana-style hot sauce.

LOUISIANA BURGERS WITH REMOULADE SAUCE
Ingredients
- 2 lb (1 kg) lean ground beef
- ¼ cup panko
- 1 large egg
- 2 tbsp garlic powder
- 2 tbsp onion powder
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp freshly ground pepper
- ½ tsp cayenne pepper
- 2 slices cooked ham (¼ inch)
- 10 tbsp Rémoulade Sauce
- 5 hamburger buns
- 5 slices Monterey Jack cheese with jalapeno
- 10 pickled banana pepper rings
- 5 tomato slices
- 1½ cups baby arugula
Yield: Makes 5.
Directions
- Combine beef, panko, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper and cayenne pepper. Shape mixture into 5 patties. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or up to 4 hours.
- Grill patties over medium-high heat on natural gas barbecue until completely cooked.
- Meanwhile, grill ham until warmed and grill-marked, about 4 – 5 minutes per side.
- When cool enough to handle, cut each slice into 5 pieces; set aside.
- Spread 2 tbsp Rémoulade Sauce on each bun. Dividing equally, top each bun with patties, ham pieces, cheese, banana pepper rings, tomato and arugula.

RÉMOULADE SAUCE
Ingredients
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- ¼ cup chopped onion
- 2 tbsp chopped celery
- 2 tbsp whole grain mustard
- 2½ tsp Louisiana-style hot sauce
- 1½ tsp finely chopped garlic
- ½ tsp fresh lemon juice
Yield: Makes about 1 cup.
Directions
- Place all ingredients in a mini food processor; process until smooth. May be refrigerated for up to 2 days.
