LOUISIANA BURGERS WITH REMOULADE SAUCE

This juicy burger is served with a Louisiana-style Rémoulade Sauce. Unlike French Rémoulade, which resembles tartar sauce, Louisiana Rémoulade gets its pink hue and piquant flavor from Louisiana-style hot sauce.

LOUISIANA BURGERS WITH REMOULADE SAUCE

Ingredients

  • ​2 lb (1 kg) lean ground beef
  • ¼ cup panko
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp onion powder
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp freshly ground pepper
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  • 2 slices cooked ham (¼ inch)
  • 10 tbsp Rémoulade Sauce
  • 5 hamburger buns
  • 5 slices Monterey Jack cheese with jalapeno
  • 10 pickled banana pepper rings
  • 5 tomato slices
  • 1½ cups baby arugula

Yield: Makes 5.

Directions

  1. Combine beef, panko, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper and cayenne pepper. Shape mixture into 5 patties. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or up to 4 hours.
  2. Grill patties over medium-high heat on natural gas barbecue until completely cooked.
  3. Meanwhile, grill ham until warmed and grill-marked, about 4 – 5 minutes per side.
  4. When cool enough to handle, cut each slice into 5 pieces; set aside.
  5. Spread 2 tbsp Rémoulade Sauce on each bun. Dividing equally, top each bun with patties, ham pieces, cheese, banana pepper rings, tomato and arugula.

RÉMOULADE SAUCE

Ingredients

  • ​½ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup chopped onion
  • 2 tbsp chopped celery
  • 2 tbsp whole grain mustard
  • 2½ tsp Louisiana-style hot sauce
  • 1½ tsp finely chopped garlic
  • ½ tsp fresh lemon juice

Yield: Makes about 1 cup.

Directions

  1. Place all ingredients in a mini food processor; process until smooth. May be refrigerated for up to 2 days.
