MULLED APPLE JUICE WITH GINGER

Simmering spices in apple juice is a great way to make a warming non-alcoholic drink. Make a batch or two of this juice at your next holiday party or after a day on the ski hill.

MULLED APPLE JUICE WITH GINGER

Ingredients

  • 1 lemon
  • 12 cups apple juice
  • 1 can (355 mL) frozen apple juice concentrate, thawed
  • 3/4 cup finely chopped crystallized ginger
  • 3 cinnamon sticks, broken
  • 1 tsp whole cloves
  • 1/2 tsp whole allspice

Directions

  1. Using a vegetable peeler, remove coloured portion of peel from lemon in thin strips. Reserve lemon for another use. Combine lemon peel, apple juice, apple juice concentrate and ginger in a slow cooker.
  2. Combine cinnamon sticks, cloves and allspice in a large tea ball or cheesecloth bag; add to juice mixture.
  3. Cover and cook on high heat setting until steaming and fragrant, about 2 1/2 - 3 hours. Remove tea ball before serving.
