Oatmeal and raisins are a classic combination. These cookies make a nice addition to any cookie jar.

Yield: Makes about 4 1/2 dozen.

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp fancy molasses
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 1/2 cups raisins

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Combine first 6 ingredients (flour through salt) in a bowl; set aside.
  2. Using medium speed of an electric mixer, beat together butter, brown sugar, sugar and molasses until fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture just until combined. Stir in oats and raisins.
  3. Drop 1 tbsp measures of dough 2 inches apart on parchment paper-lined cookie sheets. Bake for 15 – 17 minutes or just until cookies are golden. Let cookies stand for 5 minutes on cookie sheets. Remove from cookie sheets and cool cookies on racks. Store in an airtight container in a cool dry place for up to 1 week. May be frozen.
