Onion Slaw

Burger and sandwich toppings can transform an ordinary meal into a culinary experience. Take your backyard barbecue to the next level with this sweet and tangy onion topping.

Onion Slaw

Ingredients

  • 3 large sweet onions
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 tsp granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp celery seed

Directions

  1. Cut onions in half lengthwise and thinly slice crosswise. There should be about 6 cups.
  2. Combine 1/2 cup sugar, vinegar and water in a large bowl. Add onions and toss gently to combine.
  3. Cover and refrigerate for 8 hours, stirring occasionally.
  4. Drain onions, discard liquid. Combine mayonnaise, 1/2 tsp sugar and celery seed in a large bowl. Add onions and toss to coat.
