Savoury Cottage Cheese Bread

No yeast, no problem! This quick and easy savoury bread is perfect for those busy days.

Savoury Cottage Cheese Bread


  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp dill weed
  • 1 tsp dry mustard
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup freshly grated Asiago cheese
  • 3/4 cup thinly sliced green onions
  • 1/2 cup pepitas
  • 1 cup cottage cheese
  • 1/2 cup milk (2%)
  • 1/4 cup salted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs


  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF. Combine first 8 ingredients (flour through salt) in a bowl. Stir in Asiago cheese, green onions and pepitas; set aside.
  2. Place cottage cheese, milk, melted butter and eggs in a blender; puree until smooth. Add cottage cheese mixture to flour mixture and stir just until combined. Do not overmix. Spoon batter into a greased 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  3. Bake for 40 - 45 minutes or until a cake tester inserted in centre comes out clean. Cool in pan on a rack for 10 minutes. Invert loaf onto rack and cool completely. May be frozen.

Tip: Pepitas are pumpkin seeds with their white hulls removed. They are dark green in colour and found in most grocery stores.
