These spicy-sweet pecans are flavoured with Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, cumin and cayenne. Keep them on hand over the holidays to serve when guests pop in.

Yield: Makes 4 cups.

  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup salted butter
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp seasoning salt
  • 1/2 tsp freshly ground pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 4 cups pecan halves

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Place all ingredients except pecans in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring frequently. Add pecans and cook, stirring frequently, until pecans are thickly coated with sugar mixture, about 5 minutes. Spread pecan mixture in a single layer in a large rimmed parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
  3. Bake, stirring twice, until pecans are richly glazed, about 15 minutes. Cool completely in pan on a rack. Store in an airtight container in a cool dry place for up to 1 week or freeze for up to 1 month.
