Sweet and Spicy-Rubbed Wings

Our fantastic dry rub adds heat and flavour to these chicken wings. Grill these up as an appetizer, snack for the big game or as the main event.

Yield: Makes about 30.

Sweet and Spicy-Rubbed Wings

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp packed golden brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp mustard powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 2 tsp dried thyme, crumbled
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp freshly ground pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
  • 2¼ lb chicken wings, split (1.125 kg)

Directions

  1. Preheat natural gas barbecue on low heat for 10 – 15 minutes.
  2. Combine all ingredients except chicken together in a large bowl. Add chicken and toss to coat.
  3. Place chicken on barbecue grid. With lid down, grill chicken until grillmarked, about 15 minutes. Flip and continue to cook until completely cooked, about 7 minutes.

Tip:

If you’ve grilled chicken wings on your barbecue before, you know it can

be challenging to rotate them to cook evenly. An easy trick to fix this

is to use kebab skewers (metal is best) through both ends of the of the

chicken wing (as pictured). If using bamboo, make sure to soak in hot

water for at least 30 minutes before using. It takes extra time to prepare,

but this method allows you to easily flip multiple wings at once.
