Traditional Shortbread Cookies

Made with 4 simple ingredients, our Traditional Shortbread cookies are so tender and delicate, they will melt in your mouth.

Yield: Makes about 2 dozen cookies

Traditional Shortbread Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup icing sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup salted butter, softened

Directions

  1. Sift together cornstarch, icing sugar and flour. With large spoon, thoroughly blend in butter.
  2. Work with hands until soft, smooth dough forms. If necessary, refrigerate 1 hour or until easy to handle.
  3. Shape into 1 inch balls. Place about 1 1/2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet; flatten with lightly floured fork. Or, roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness; cut into shapes with cookie cutters.
  4. Decorate with candied cherries, coloured sprinkles or nuts, if desired.
  5. Bake in 300ºF oven 15 - 20 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Remove and cool completely on wire rack. Store in tightly covered container.
