Crumb Crusts

In addition to being super flavourful, crumb crusts are the easiest pie crust to prepare and make. Cookies, nuts, wafers and even some cereals make the perfect base for your favourite pie filling. Follow our handy crumb crust making guide and you will have your guests asking for seconds!

Type Amount Ground Sugar Melted Butter

Graham wafer crumbs 

1 1/4 cups

2 tbsp 

1/3 cup 

Vanilla wafers

24 wafers = 1 1/2 cups  

2 tbsp 

6 tbsp 

Gingersnaps 

18 cookies = 1 1/4 cups 

1 tbsp 

1/3 cup

Corn Flakes 

4 cups = 1 cup

1/4 cup

1/3 cup 

Nuts 

2 cups 

6 tbsp 

3 tbsp

Dry bread crumbs

1 1/2 cups

4 tbsp

1/2 cup

Chocolate wafers 

18 wafers = 1 1/3 cups 

1 tbsp 

3 tbsp

Directions:

Combine crumbs, sugar and butter.  

For Pies: Press crumbs into the bottom and sides of a 9- inch pie plate forming a small rim. Bake at 375ᵒF for 10 minutes until brown. Cool and Chill. 

For Tarts: Press 1 tbsp of mixture into the bottom of paper-lined muffin cups.  Bake at 375ᵒF for 5 minutes until brown. Cool and Chill.
