Tapas is a Spanish word used to describe small plates of food.
Tapas are great for entertaining any time of year. Throw a tapas party and serve small plates of shareable foods such as warm olives, a variety of cheeses and sliced cured meats, ultra-crispy potatoes, stuffed dates, crostini, and empanadas. Use colourful plates to present a combination of hot and cold appetizers to delight the senses.
Tapas can be simple or elaborate creations. Here are a few to enjoy at your next get-together.
Halloumi is a salty, squeaky, semi-firm Mediterranean cheese. It’s unique in that it holds its shape when grilled or fried. This one-pan melty cheese delicacy is an easy crowd-pleaser. Share it as an appetizer, served with some toasted, crusty baguette. Leftovers make a great lunch tossed with pasta.
By roasting the tomatoes and garlic with thyme, we packed a lot of flavour into this savoury appetizer. Crostini Toasts make a versatile base that can be transformed into a medley of tapas.
This appetizer is great to set out when you are sitting down with friends for a Tapas night, pre-dinner cocktail or glass of wine. The olives, cheese and other goodies are marinated in oil infused with herbs and citrus. Serve them with baguette slices.
Empanadas are pastry turnovers filled with a savoury mixture of beef and vegetables. Serve with our Roasted Garlic Aioli.
These sweet dates are stuffed with creamy Boursin cheese and topped with store bought pepper jelly for a quick yet refined appetizer.
Patatas Bravas is a classic dish originating in Spain, where it can be found on virtually all tapas menus. It is known for its ultra-crispy potatoes, smoked paprika tomato sauce and garlicky mayonnaise that finishes it off.
